The Key of David
The Key of David is a weekly television program that connects current news to Bible prophecy. Gerald Flurry presents the program each Sunday morning, which starts with an introductory montage of biblical imagery and quotations from Herbert Armstrong, the late presenter of the World Tomorrow program, and from Mr. Flurry. Mr. Flurry then typically begins by citing a current society, science or world news event and asking about the reason behind it. He spends the balance of the program analyzing the news and reading excerpts directly from the Bible.
The program is named after Revelation 3:7, which describes God as having the "key of David." This concept refers to ancient Israel's King David and infers that Jesus Christ will return to rule from David's throne. It also includes understanding the modern identities of ancient Israel and other nations mentioned in the Bible.
Mr. Flurry has said that one third of the Bible contains prophecy, and "the Bible deals with the real world." Examples of program content for the current season include: the modern resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire, what is the prophetic "beast," Iran's nuclear weapons program and Russia and China in prophecy. Other programs have explored the theory of evolution, images from the Hubble Space Telescope, keys to financial success, the rule of law, God's holy day plan, who is Christ's "bride" and John's gospel.
The Key of David is produced by the Philadelphia Church of God, which Mr. Flurry founded in 1989. The first program aired in January 1993, and The Key of David has been on the air with about 30 episodes per season for 16 years with a total of 534 programs. The program took a seven-month hiatus in 2003 while the church fought a successful battle for the legal copyrights to print Herbert Armstrong's literature and distribute it for free on the program.
Produced in HD, in its own studio set on the Herbert W. Armstrong College campus in Edmond, Oklahoma, the program uses high-grade production cameras, equipment and editing software. The broadcast is complemented by an online presence, which features program summaries; RealPlayer video streaming; and audio, video, and transcript downloads for each program, including previous seasons dating back to 2004. KeyofDavid.com visitors can also download or order free copies of dozens of literature titles, including books, booklets, reprint articles, a Bible correspondence course and the Trumpet newsmagazine. The program is also available on iTunes as a podcast. Website visitors can read a short biography of Gerald Flurry and find contact information for the church's headquarters campus and eight regional offices worldwide.
Also available online and in the Trumpet is The Key of David's station listing. In the United States, the program is available on nationwide cable (WGN) and other nationwide networks including ION and CW. The Key of David is available on over 200 local stations in the United States, covering almost every major market. It is available in Canada on three nationwide cable networks and six local stations. Including WGN's coverage in other countries, the Key of David reaches a worldwide potential audience of 400 million viewers.
