Custom Bach Stradivarius Trumpet!!?
I want to get a Bach Stradivarius 37 Reveerse leadpipe with gold plated inside of the bell and a gold trim kit. I have a Bach Strad right now and I like it, i know these horns can be inconsistent but i can't even try it out because it has to be custom made. If I just got the gold plated inside of the bell and gold trim kit onto the trumpet I have now, how much would that cost compared to the new trumpet? I was also going to sell my old trumpet if I were to get a new one.
Thanks!!!
If you have a Bach trumpet that you really enjoy playing, I would suggest keeping it, customizing it, and putting it into top playing condition. You are quite correct in that there is a lack of consistency in the playing characteristics of each trumpet. Here are some options for you.:
You can purchase a gold trim kit for your Bach:

There are also places which sell different tuning slide configurations which will change the playing characteristics of your trumpet to give it more of a reversed leadpipe feel. However, you may find that your original is the one that plays the best. Here are a couple of links with information about tuning slides and leadpipes:

Here is a link for one shop that does custom work on trumpets. I have used them, and recommend them very highly to all of my friends! Charlie will give you an honest assessment of your Bach and he will help guide you through your options. If something "needs" to be done, he will let you know.

As for goldplating the inside of your bell, while it looks nice, it really does very little to enhance the playing characteristics of the trumpet. It is my opinion that form should follow function. You won't see the inside of the bell while you are playing.
If your valves are older, you may want to have them re-built. I would recommend contacting the people in the links above to discuss all of your options. Again, in my opinion, if you are happy with how your trumpet plays, I would really suggest keeping it and having it updated.
Best of luck to you!
