What Trombone Mouthpiece Should I Use for Jazz Ensemble?
- I am currently using Vincent Bach 6 1/2AL
- I have a Stradivarius Model 36 Trombone with a F-Attachment
- I am playing 3rd Trombone
- I am an intermediate/advanced player
- I want one that will allow me to play both clean high and clean low notes fairly easily
- I want one that allows me to play longer without tiring my lips
- I have a choice to choose from including a Yamaha Japan 47, Vincent Bach Corp 15, a Holton 12C, and a Holton 47 which I can get for free, but there is only 1 spot in my case
After 25 years of trumpet playing, I use my Bach 3C for everything from lead playing to section playing to solo work. Switching mouthpieces is just a nightmare and now I require so much less warm up. Shallow mouthpieces actually tend to tire me out as quickly as really deep ones. You have a nice, versatile mouthpiece in the 6 1/2 AL and I wouldn't change it. More practice should allow you to play longer without getting tired; personally I'd stick to the one you have unless playing bass trombone. The high notes will come eventually too! Good luck!
